Thermax and HydrogenPro Join Forces to Localise Alkaline Electrolyser Production for Green Hydrogen Projects

By Enersider Desk

In a significant move to accelerate India’s green hydrogen ambitions, Thermax Limited, a leading energy and environment solutions provider, has entered a strategic partnership with Norway’s HydrogenPro, a global leader in alkaline electrolyser technology. The collaboration aims to indigenize large-scale green hydrogen (GH2) production systems in India, leveraging HydrogenPro’s cutting edge electrolyser technology and Thermax’s engineering expertise.

Under the agreement, Thermax gains exclusive rights in India to supply, install, and service alkaline electrolyser systems based on HydrogenPro’s certified high-efficiency technology. The deal includes technology licensing, stack supply, and continuous upgrades, enabling immediate deployment in ongoing Indian GH2 projects. HydrogenPro’s advanced electrode coating and system efficiency will be combined with Thermax’s local manufacturing capabilities to deliver cost-effective, sustainable solutions.

As part of the partnership, Thermax will manufacture key balance-of-plant components and integrate them with HydrogenPro’s electrolyser stacks. A state of the art test station for short stacks will also be established at Thermax’s Pune facility to support R&D and customised solutions for the Indian market. Ashish Bhandari, MD & CEO of Thermax, emphasised the collaboration’s role in advancing India’s energy transition: “By combining HydrogenPro’s proven technology with out engineering strength, we can offer localised, need to end electrolyser solutions with full lifecycle support, driving industrial decarbonization.” Jarle Dragvik, CEO of HydrogenPro, highlighted India’s renewable energy potential : “India is a key growth market for green hydrogen. Partnering with Thermax gives us a strong foothold to address sectors where renewable alternatives are critical for decarbonization”

The partnership positions Thermax as a one-stop provider for green hydrogen projects, offering EPC services, electrolyser systems, and performance optimization. This alliance reinforces India’s push for clean energy and aligns with global sustainability goals.
