The project has been developed through SJVN’s wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), marking the company’s first operational project in the northeastern region and the first large-scale solar power project in the state.

Built on around 330 acres of lease-based land at Khudigaon Pt. II village in Dhubri district, the project has been commissioned at a cost of Rs 367.44 crore. It is expected to generate about 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and around 3,230 million units over its 25-year project life.

The maximum tariff for the project has been fixed at Rs 3.92 per unit, and the electricity generated will be supplied to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

The foundation stone for the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2024, from Adilabad in Telangana.

According to the company, the commissioning of the project will contribute to the government’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. The project is expected to help reduce carbon emissions by around 1,58,270 tonnes and generate direct and indirect employment, providing a boost to the local economy.

SJVN, formerly known as Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, is an Indian public sector undertaking in the Navaratna Category and involved in hydroelectric power generation and transmission. It was incorporated in 1988 as Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

The company has a total operating hydropower capacity of 1972 MW through its three hydropower plants—Nathpa Jhakri and Rampurand Naitwar Mori. In addition, it has an installed capacity of 97.6 MW of wind power and 396.9 MW of solar power.
