Adani Energy Solutions delivers 1 crore smart meters under power distribution revamp scheme

By Enersider Desk | New Delhi

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) said it has delivered one crore electricity smart meters across multiple distribution companies (discoms), becoming the first company in the country to reach the milestone.

The company said the next one crore smart meters are scheduled to be delivered in the coming financial year. AESL, an Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), has a mandate to install around 2.5 crore smart meters across five states under various contracts.

According to the company, AESL is currently installing about 25,000 smart meters per day, which it said is the highest installation pace in the sector. The milestone has been achieved ahead of the company’s earlier guidance of reaching the one crore mark by March 31, 2026.

The smart metering programme is part of the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), under which about 25 crore conventional electricity meters are to be replaced with smart meters to modernise the power distribution system.

AESL said the smart meters provide real-time consumption data, improve billing transparency and support grid modernisation by enabling better demand forecasting and reduction in Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses. The data also helps utilities plan grid operations and integrate renewable energy sources more efficiently.

Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Energy Solutions, said the milestone reflected the company’s execution capabilities and engagement with utilities and consumers. He added that smart meters play a role in improving grid reliability, reducing losses and enabling efficient energy management.

The company attributed its installation pace to an integrated approach across the value chain. It has partnered with group entities such as Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions for smart metering and IoT platforms and AdaniConneX for data hosting, while also tying up with meter manufacturers to ensure timely supplies. AESL also said it is training technicians through its corporate social responsibility initiatives to support meter installations.

AESL began its smart metering operations in 2024 and said it has reached the one crore installation mark in about 24 months, making it the fastest such rollout in the country.

Adani Energy Solutions Limited is part of the Adani Group and operates in power transmission, distribution, smart metering and cooling solutions. It is India’s largest private transmission company, with operations across 16 states and a transmission network of 27,901 circuit kilometres and 1,18,175 MVA of transformation capacity. Its distribution business serves over 13 million consumers in Mumbai and Mundra SEZ. The company currently has a smart metering order book of over 24.6 million meters.
