Adani to Build $3 Billion Power Plant in Bihar, Creating Thousands of Jobs

By ANI | New Delhi

In a major development for Bihar’s energy sector, Adani Power has been awarded a contract to build a massive new power plant. The company received a formal Letter of Award (LoA) for a 25-year deal to supply electricity to the state.

The project involves building a new 2,400 MW thermal power plant in the Pirpainti area of Bhagalpur district. This modern, high-efficiency plant will consist of three units, each generating 800 MW of power. The contract was awarded by the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) on behalf of the state’s power distribution companies. The formal Power Supply Agreement is expected to be signed soon.

Adani Power’s CEO, S.B. Khyalia, stated that the new plant will provide affordable and reliable electricity to the people of Bihar. He emphasized that this dependable power supply will boost industrialization and strengthen the state’s economy.

This project is a direct response to India’s rapidly growing demand for electricity. The country’s peak power needs are expected to jump from 250 GW today to nearly 400 GW by 2032. To ensure a steady power supply, the government plans to add significant new capacity.

Adani Power won the project by offering the lowest price of Rs 6.075 per unit of electricity in a competitive bidding process. The company plans to invest approximately $3 billion to build the plant and its necessary infrastructure.

The construction is also a major job creator. It is estimated to provide employment for 10,000 to 12,000 people during the building phase. Once the plant is up and running, it will sustain nearly 3,000 permanent jobs, providing a significant economic boost to the region.
