UltraTech Cement Limited has commenced the deployment of 45 electric heavy-duty trucks in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM) for clinker transportation in northern India.
The fleet will transport clinker from Kotputli Cement Works, UltraTech’s combined manufacturing unit in Rajasthan to its grinding units at Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works in the Delhi-NCR region. The trucks will operate over a distance of around 250 kilometres, travelling through Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

According to the company, the deployment strengthens UltraTech’s green logistics network which already includes more than 750 green trucks across its operations.
The initiative follows the signing of a transport service contract between UltraTech, Energy In Motion and a logistics service provider. The company said, ‘the deployment is among the largest electric heavy-duty trucking projects in the cement sector in northern India and represents a significant step towards demonstrating the feasibility of long-haul electric trucking in the country”.
The fleet consists of 45 electric trucks, each with a carrying capacity of 55 tonnes. UltraTech estimates that the vehicles will help reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The company added that the deployment has the potential to replace the use of around 2.9 million litres of diesel every year.
The initiative also supports India’s efforts to promote zero-emission commercial transportation under the government’s electric vehicle and logistics policy frameworks.
K C Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement Limited, said, “India’s ambition for clean, energy-secure transportation demands industry action, and UltraTech is committed to being at the forefront. This deployment reflects our belief that decarbonising logistics is as strategic as decarbonising production.”
He added that shifting long-haul clinker transportation to electric trucks aligns with the country’s objective of reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels while creating a resilient and future-ready supply chain.
The company said, “it has been promoting sustainable transportation solutions for several years. The company introduced CNG trucks in 2021, LNG trucks in 2022 and electric trucks in 2024. As of FY26, UltraTech operates 638 CNG trucks, 32 LNG trucks and 89 electric trucks across its manufacturing units”.
