The webinar series aims to bring together policymakers, industry stakeholders, financial institutions, and technical experts to deliberate on pathways for decarbonizing India’s maritime sector.
On Day 1, Cmde Debesh Lahiri, Advisor, NCoEGPS, outlined that the NGSP has evolved through a year-long consultative process involving over 130 stakeholders. Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, emphasized that India’s maritime growth must be aligned with sustainability, energy efficiency, and global competitiveness.
Day 2 will focus on green technology, green finance and investment enablement, and green skill development. Discussions will cover energy-efficient systems, hybrid propulsion, financing instruments such as green bonds and sustainability-linked loans, and workforce readiness through curriculum modernisation.
Day 3 will focus on green ships, green ship recycling and circular economy, and pollution prevention. Discussions will address lifecycle decarbonization, green shipbuilding standards, environmentally compliant ship recycling frameworks aligned with the Hong Kong International Convention, and compliance systems aligned with MARPOL and the London Protocol.
The webinar will conclude with a closing session summarizing recommendations and outlining next steps for integrating stakeholder inputs into the draft NGSP.
