By Enersider Desk | New Delhi

The Union Government has appointed Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the new Managing Director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment on 25th August. Tripathi, who is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, will take over from MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi who was holding additional charge.

Tripathi brings administrative experience and a technology background to the role. His previous include Managing Director & CEO of Digital India Corporation, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, and CEO of MyGov.in. In his home cadre of Madhya Pradesh, he gained experience in e-governance, energy sector reforms, and IT-driven public service delivery.

Tripathi’s appointment is strategically significant as India accelerates its push towards 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. As the head of the central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), he will be responsible for overseeing the expansion of solar parks, hybrid projects, and pioneering initiatives in green hydrogen and battery storage. He will also play a role in facilitating public private partnerships and coordinating with states and investors.

Tripathi’s record in driving digital innovation and knowledge are expected to strengthen SECI’s capacity in project execution and policy implementation, providing a critical boost to India’s clean energy transition and climate goals.
