State-run NHPC on Monday said Sanjay Kumar Singh has taken on the additional role of Chairman and Managing Director of the company, effective September 1, 2025. He will continue to serve as Director (Projects) at India’s leading hydropower firm.

An experienced civil engineer with over 33 years in the power sector, Singh has a strong track record of managing major infrastructure projects in India and Bhutan. Since becoming Director (Projects) of NHPC in July 2024, he has overseen the successful completion of the challenging 800 MW Pārbati-II project. He has also been instrumental in advancing the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower project, which is now nearly ready to begin operations.
Singh’s leadership extends beyond NHPC. He also chairs the boards of NHPC’s renewable energy and subsidiary companies and serves as a director on the boards of several important joint ventures.
Before joining NHPC, he had a long and distinguished career at SJVN Ltd. There, he led multiple hydroelectric projects at various stages, from initial survey to construction. His experience includes working on some of India’s largest power projects, such as the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri plant and Bhutan’s 1020 MW Tala project.
His extensive expertise covers all critical areas of project development, including construction management, contract negotiations, and securing essential government clearances from ministries and regulatory bodies. His deep industry knowledge is expected to guide NHPC in its future endeavors.
