Myanmar President Visits NTPC NETRA; Explores India’s Advanced Clean Energy Technologies

Min Aung Hlaing, President of Myanmar, visited NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA), the research and development arm of NTPC Ltd on Saturday. He was  accompanied by a high level ministerial delegation from Myanmar.

The delegation was received by NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh, Regional Executive Director and Head of NTPC NETRA Shaswattam, along with other senior officials of the company.

During the visit, the Myanmar President and the accompanying delegation were briefed on NTPC’s growth trajectory, its previous engagements in Myanmar and the organisation’s efforts in advancing research, innovation and clean energy technologies aimed at supporting the global energy transition, an official statement by the company said.

The delegation was also taken on a tour of NETRA’s advanced research facilities, where they witnessed several cutting-edge clean energy projects developed by NTPC. These included the 4 MW/1 MWh Solar Microgrid, the 3 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System, the Green Hydrogen Hub, and the Agri/Municipal Solid Waste Gasification to Power Plant.

The facilities showcased NTPC’s ongoing work in renewable energy generation, large-scale energy storage, green hydrogen production and sustainable waste-to-energy solutions. According to NTPC, the visit highlighted India’s growing capabilities in developing innovative and environmentally sustainable energy technologies.

The company stated that President Min Aung Hlaing expressed interest in NTPC’s clean energy initiatives and the technologies being developed at NETRA. The interaction also provided an opportunity to discuss potential approaches for future collaboration between India and Myanmar in the energy sector.

Officials said that the visit could help strengthen cooperation through knowledge sharing, capacity building, technology exchange and the deployment of renewable energy projects. Areas such as clean energy infrastructure, sustainable power generation and emerging energy technologies were among the key focus points of the discussions.

The visit shows the importance of international partnerships in accelerating the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy systems, while also highlighting India’s role as a growing hub for innovation in the renewable energy sector.
