MNRE to Form Task Forces to Accelerate 100 GW Wind Energy Target

By PTI | New Delhi

In a significant move to fast-track India’s clean energy goals, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) have announced plans to form special task forces. These groups will be dedicated to ensuring the country meets its ambitious target of generating 100 gigawatts (GW) of wind energy by the year 2030. The decision was made during a high-level meeting organized by the IWTMA. The roundtable brought together all major players, including top industry executives, government policymakers, and regulatory officials. Their shared goal was to find solutions to speed up the development of wind projects across the nation.

The primary job of these new task forces will be to carefully examine current government policies and regulations. They will identify any bottlenecks or delays that are slowing down project execution. By streamlining processes and facilitating faster approvals, the task forces aim to accelerate the setup of new wind farms to keep up with the country’s growing demand for clean and reliable electricity.

Speaking on the initiative, Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of MNRE, stated, “India has immense potential in wind energy, both from its natural resources and its manufacturing capability. These task forces will help us not just meet our 100 GW target but potentially exceed it, establishing India as a global manufacturing hub for wind energy.” Mr. Girish Tanti, Chairman of IWTMA, echoed this sentiment, calling the discussions highly productive. He emphasized that wind power is crucial for providing affordable, round-the-clock clean energy. The creation of these dedicated task forces, he said, marks a new and focused chapter in India’s renewable energy journey.

This initiative reinforces India’s commitment to its larger climate goal of achieving 500 GW of total energy capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030, with wind energy poised to be a major contributor.
