India and Japan Forge Deeper Energy Ties in High-Level Virtual Dialogue

India and Japan held a ministerial-level Energy Dialogue on August 25th  through video conference. The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Minister of Power, Shri Manohar Lal, and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Muto Yoji. 

The talks were part of the Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership. This partnership focuses on energy security, moving to clean energy, and addressing climate change. The cooperation is organized through the India-Japan Energy Dialogue and several Joint Working Groups. During the meeting, Indian ministries including Power, New and Renewable Energy, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Coal provided updates. They reported on the progress made by their Joint Working Groups and proposed plans for future cooperation.

The ministers from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to energy security and inclusive growth. They noted positive developments in areas like energy efficiency, clean hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy. They also agreed to expand their work together on new technologies. This includes carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), green chemicals, biofuels, and other advanced energy technologies.

Both sides emphasized that their partnership remains important for developing secure and sustainable energy systems in the Indo-Pacific region. The dialogue served to strengthen ongoing efforts and set a clear direction for future collaboration between the two countries in the energy sector.
