Deepak Gupta is the next GAIL India CMD; to take charge in March 2026

Deepak Gupta is likely to succeed Sandeep Kumar Gupta as the next Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL India Ltd.

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PSEB) has recommended Deepak Gupta’s name for the top post at the Maharatna PSU. This was announced at the PESB meeting on November 6.

Currently, he is serving as Director (Projects) at Gail India.

Deepak Gupta will take charge after the superannuation of the current CMD in February 2026.

Gupta was amongst the 12 candidates who had applied for the top job.

The other candidates were – Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director (BD), GAIL India, Ajay Tripathi, ED, GAIL India, Ashu Shinghal, ED, GAIL India, Atul Kumar Tripathi, ED (Projects), Anupam Mukhopadhyay, CEO, GAIL India, Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, MD, IGL, Kapil Kumar Jain, ED, GAIL India, Satish Kumar Sinha, ED, GAIL India, Atul Gupta, Director (Commercial), EIL, Anuj Jain, Director (Finance), IOCL and Dr. Pudi.Hariprasad, CAO, Railways.

Deepak Gupta, a Mechanical Engineer from Delhi College of Engineering has 35 years of rich and multifaceted experience in the Oil & Gas sector. 

Gupta has executed large-scale, complex projects from concept to commissioning, across varied implementation models – EPC (LSTK), EPCM, OBE, and PMC. 

His ability to seamlessly integrate multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams across geographies has been a cornerstone of his success in delivering mission-critical infrastructure in complex and challenging environments.
