The Ministry of Coal will organise the third roadshow on the Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects in Mumbai on June 18, 2026. The event focuses on strengthening stakeholder engagement and encouraging greater industry participation in India’s coal gasification programme.
According to the Ministry, the roadshow follows the response received from similar events held earlier in New Delhi and Hyderabad. The Mumbai event is expected to bring together industry stakeholders, investors, technology providers, policy experts, coal sector representatives, financial institutions and State government officials to discuss opportunities in coal gasification and support the country’s efforts towards cleaner utilisation of coal resources.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy will attend the event as the Chief Guest. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will participate as the Special Guest, while Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey will be the Guest of Honour. Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, including Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt and Additional Secretary Sanoj Kumar Jha, will also be present.
The Ministry said, “coal gasification is becoming an important part of India’s strategy to strengthen energy security, reduce dependence on imported feedstocks, promote value addition to domestic coal resources and support the development of downstream industries”.
To support the development of the energy sector, the Government has approved a ₹46,000 crore initiative for the promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects. The initiative aims to encourage the use of domestic coal for producing strategic industrial and chemical products, reduce dependence on imports of natural gas, methanol, ammonia and other critical feedstocks, and strengthen energy security.
The Ministry has also placed the Request for Proposal (RFP) in the public domain and invited comments and suggestions from stakeholders to ensure wider participation and transparency in implementation.
According to the Ministry, the roadshow reflects its efforts to promote investment, partnerships and advanced technologies to support the growth of a coal gasification ecosystem aligned with the goals of energy self reliance, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
