Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) has announced the commissioning of India’s pioneering off-grid 5 MW green hydrogen pilot plant in Kutch, Gujarat, marking a significant advancement in the country’s clean energy journey.
This cutting-edge facility is powered entirely by solar energy and is equipped with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), allowing it to function independently from the main power grid. The project sets a new precedent for decentralized, renewable-driven hydrogen production in India.
The plant boasts a fully automated, closed-loop electrolyzer system that dynamically adapts to fluctuating renewable energy inputs, ensuring operational flexibility and optimal performance. This innovative design addresses the intermittent nature of solar power while maintaining high standards of efficiency and safety.
This achievement highlights the Adani Group’s dedication to sustainability, technological innovation, and leadership in the green hydrogen sector. It aligns with India’s vision to become a global leader in green hydrogen and demonstrates the potential of renewable-powered solutions for industries that are challenging to decarbonize.
Serving as a proof of concept, this pilot plant paves the way for ANIL’s upcoming Green Hydrogen Hub in Mundra, Gujarat—a project poised to make a substantial contribution to India’s low-carbon future. Green hydrogen is anticipated to be instrumental in reducing emissions across key sectors such as fertilizers, refining, and heavy transportation, supporting the pursuit of global net-zero objectives.
The initiative is closely aligned with the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), a flagship program by the Government of India aimed at reducing energy import dependence, enhancing energy security, and accelerating the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries—all in support of the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision.
