Suzlon Secures 105 MW Order from Sunsure Energy for Wind Turbine

Suzlon Energy has secured a 105 MW order from Sunsure Energy for its newly launched S175 (5.0 MW) wind turbine making the commercial debut of the company’s next-generation turbine.

According to an official release,the order comes just two weeks after the launch of the S175, which Suzlon describes as India’s tallest and most powerful wind turbine. The project also marks Sunsure Energy’s third order with Suzlon.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply, erect, commission and maintain 21 S175 wind turbine generators (WTGs) for a project in the Bijapur district of Karnataka. The S175 turbine features a 175-metre rotor and a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower.

According to the company, the turbine is designed to access stronger and more stable wind resources which help deliver higher energy generation and improved project economics.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, said “the partnership with Sunsure Energy has expanded across geographies and technologies, with the latest order making Sunsure the launch customer for the company’s new 5 MW turbine platform”.

Manish Mehta, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Sunsure Energy, said “the order aligns with the company’s strategy of delivering firm and reliable clean energy and supports its ambition of becoming a 10 GW platform by 2030”.

The development of 400.8 MW projects with Sunsure Energy in just 14 months shows the rapid growth of India’s commercial and industrial renewable energy market and the trust customers place in Suzlon’s technology and execution capabilities, according to Ajay Kapur, Chief Executive Officer of Suzlon Group.

Sunsure Energy has 800 MW of operational renewable energy assets and 8.30 GW under various stages of development and construction across India, expanding the company’s position in the energy sector.
