APGENCO achieved record 6,160 MW power generation: Andhra Energy minister

Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar said that APGENCO has achieved a historic milestone by producing a record 6,160 MW of power and 5,730 MW ex-bus generation, the highest ever since the corporation’s inception.

During a review meeting, the Energy Minister emphasised that maintaining high levels of power generation is crucial to meet the increasing electricity demand during the summer season and to ensure uninterrupted power supply to domestic, industrial and commercial consumers.

“Kumar stated that Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO & Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Ltd) has achieved a historic milestone by recording 6,160 MW of power generation and 5,730 MW ex-bus generation, the highest ever since the Corporation’s inception,” said an official press release.

He said the government is well prepared to meet future electricity demand and appreciated the power utilities for their efforts and milestones.

Directing power utilities to remain fully prepared for the summer season, Kumar emphasized that all necessary measures should be taken to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to consumers across the state.

Further, he observed that the power utilities have successfully met record demand while maintaining stable transmission operations.

He said the achievement of record power generation along with meeting peak demand is a positive indicator for the state’s economic growth and development.

According to Kumar, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is taking several measures to protect consumers from increased electricity charges and to ensure reliable power supply.

Kumar accused the previous YSRCP government of weaking APGENCO and buying power at excessive prices from private players.

He alleged that electricity tariffs were increased nine times during the erstwhile YSRCP government, imposing a burden of about Rs 32,000 crore on consumers.

“In contrast, the present coalition government has taken corrective measures and implemented a 13 paise true-down, an unprecedented step in the history of the power sector, to reduce the burden on consumers,” said Kumar.

Moreover, he highlighted that the government is constructing a large number of substations to strengthen power infrastructure for uninterrupted electricity supply.
