PM Modi inaugurates ₹3,600 cr POWERGRID transmission projects in Rajasthan

By Enersider Desk | New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated two major transmission infrastructure projects of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, in Rajasthan, involving a combined investment of over ₹3,600 crore, according to an official statement.

The projects include the “Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part-B1,” comprising the 765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III substation and the 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-III–Sikar-II transmission line, and the “Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for Evacuation of Power from Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase-II Part-E),” comprising the 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-II–Sikar-II second transmission line.

According to the statement, the transmission systems have been developed to facilitate large-scale evacuation of renewable energy from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Rajasthan, particularly from the Bhadla region, which hosts one of the world’s largest solar parks with a capacity exceeding 2.2 GW.

The projects are expected to strengthen the national grid and support the country’s expanding renewable energy capacity, reinforcing POWERGRID’s role in building a robust transmission network.

As of February 15, 2026, POWERGRID has commissioned and operates 290 substations and over 1,84,370 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, along with 6,02,016 MVA of transformation capacity across the country.

The company has maintained an average transmission system availability of over 99.84 per cent, aided by automation and digital solutions.
