Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi urged the wind energy industry, including OEMs and component manufacturers, to increase the local content in wind projects to 85% from the current level of 64%.

While addressing the 7th edition of Windergy India 2025, the minister emphasised that enhancing domestic value addition would help strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain amid changing global dynamics and geopolitical challenges.
Girish Tanti, Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), reaffirmed the industry’s support for advancing this objective.
This advocacy platform and exhibition, held from October 29 to 31, 2025, at Chennai was attended by S.S. Sivasankar, state Minister of Transport and Electricity, Tamil Nadu and K. J. George – state Minister of Energy, Karnataka, Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany.
Windergy India 2025 saw participation from 350 exhibitors from over 20 countries and 15,000 visitors.
Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi said, “Wind energy contributes nearly one-fifth of the 257 GW of installed capacity. Wind is playing a crucial role in driving Aatmanirbharta and indigenization, given its high local content. India can capture 10% of the global wind supply chain by 2030, and up to 20% by 2040”.
Chairman, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), Girish Tanti said, “We welcome MNRE’s mission to strengthen Atmanirbharta in wind energy. With nearly 64% local content and over 2,500 MSMEs contributing to the sector, India has built one of the most resilient and competitive wind manufacturing ecosystems in the world.”
The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), established in 1998, is the apex business association of India’s wind industry.
The association engages with policymakers, investors, and stakeholders to shape policy frameworks and regulatory environments.
