NHEV and TRANSVOLT join hands to deploy 1000 electric trucks

By Enersider Desk | New Delhi

In a big boost for green transportation, groups NHEV and Transvolt Mobility have joined hands to deploy 1,000 electric trucks across India. This major announcement was made on World EV Day.

The project started as a trial last year. Its huge success has now led to this large-scale rollout. The trucks will run on various freight routes, helping reduce pollution from one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions in transport. To make this possible, a special financing program worth ₹500 crores was launched last month. It was designed to help companies afford these expensive trucks. The response was overwhelming, leading to the plan for 1,000 trucks, which is far more than the initial expectation of 720-810 trucks.

A government advisor said this shows India’s electric vehicle policy is working and attracting private investment. Recent financial backing, including a $20 million investment in Transvolt and a $57 million fund for the project, will help speed up the adoption of large electric vehicles nationwide.

An official stated that this effort makes it easier to do business by solving technical and financial challenges. Because of this project, manufacturers are now working to reduce the cost of an electric truck from ₹1.25 crores to ₹90 lakhs. This could make logistics costs 10% cheaper than using diesel trucks.

These new trucks, operated by Transvolt, will be used in many areas, including construction, mines, ports, and for transporting goods like cement, steel, and food grains. This initiative is supported by a new government incentive scheme that offers a discount of ₹2.7-9.3 lakhs on each electric truck purchased.
