Karnataka Records 14,151 Rooftop Solar Installations under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: MNRE Minister

A total of 25,675.39 MW capacity of renewable energy has been installed in the state of Karnataka, as on October 31, 2025, which is around 10.24 % of the total 2,50,643.45 MW capacity of renewable energy installed across the country, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said in reply to a query in Rajya Sabha.

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) is a demand driven scheme for installation of rooftop solar (RTS) systems, wherein all residential consumers in the country having grid connected electricity connection of the local DISCOM can avail the benefits of the scheme by applying on the National Portal of the scheme. 

As on November 26, 2025, a total of 18,72,499 RTS systems have been installed, benefitting 23,47,694 households, under the scheme across the country. 

Out of these, a total of 14,151 RTS systems have been installed, benefitting 22,313 households, in the state of Karnataka.

In the Belagavi district of Karnataka, a total of 25,778 applications have been submitted on the National Portal and 681 households have been benefitted with installations of rooftop solar under the scheme as on 26.11.2025.

To accelerate the progress and achieve the target of installation of rooftop solar for one crore households by 2026-27 under PMSG: MBY across the country including in the Belagavi city of Karnataka, the Ministry has taken following measures:

  • Streamlined online process from registration to subsidy disbursal directly into consumers’ bank accounts.
  • Availability of collateral-free loans from nationalized banks at concessional interest rates (6% per annum) with a 10-year tenure; 5,67,939 RTS systems have been installed through loans.
  • Simplified regulatory approvals, including waiving technical feasibility requirements and allowing auto load enhancement up to 10 kW.
  • Inclusion of RESCO/Utility-led Aggregation (ULA) Models and net metering agreements in the application process.
  • Registration of 20,423 vendors to ensure availability of qualified service providers.
  • Capacity building and training programs have trained 1,49,916 personnel.
  • Awareness campaigns through print, TV, radio, and regional channels.
  • Regular monitoring and regional review meetings, including a recent North East Region review on October 31, 2025, in Guwahati.
  • A grievance redressal mechanism with a 12-language call center at 15555.

The Minister further informed that under the scheme for development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects, a total amount of Rs. 351.94 crore has been released as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for development of the Pavagada Solar Park with a capacity of 2000 MW and its power evacuation infrastructure. 

The Pavagada Solar Park has been fully operational with 2000 MW capacity since December 2019.
